The only symbol in the multi faith ‘meditation room’ at the UN is a six-and-half-ton rectangular block of iron ore, polished on the top and illuminated from above by a single spotlight. un.org/depts/dhl/dag/…
@EhzNow I will. That puts well how I tend to land upon an understanding with which I am satisfied at a given time. “If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.” Of course understanding may change, with wisdom and experience and the passing of the years.
@EhzNow Thank you! You too, Eli.
@EhzNow Thank you. I will definitely read this in detail. I don’t have any particular doctrinal affiliation, for good or bad, but I’m keen to understand your take on how the theology relates.
@EhzNow ‘Found’ here I believe to mean figured out or understood. He could figure out just one man out of a thousand, but no women. The ESV, NASB, NKJV all seem to me to take this meaning. I don’t know the underlying Greek, but the NIV+NLT seem to be adding something otherwise absent.
As a child of the 80’s I couldn’t help but notice how Song of Solomon 1:2 is quoted in the onetime hit single ‘Kiss Me’ by Stephen ‘TinTin’ Duffy from 1985. It’s a shame he didn’t quote more!

@EhzNow Ecclesiastes also seems a challenge for both translators and paraphrases. I sometimes use the NIV or occasionally NLT for an idiomatic take on passages and that does not help with understanding Ecclesiastes. Ecc 7:27-28 is just one egregious example where both fail. Not good.
@EhzNow It helped to step away and familiarise with a couple of perspectives before re-reading. Ecclesiastes is somewhat like James for testing the reader’s bigger picture understanding of God’s word. Both can be confounding at first. Both reward deeper study.
@RachaelColby7 @PilgrimIntoWord @SarahGeringer Thank you Rachael.
@LizBeth87348950 @SarahGeringer Thank you 🙏
@SarahGeringer Thank you.
@PilgrimIntoWord @SarahGeringer I have prodigal parents! It is a worry, especially my mum. It was hard talking with them about this over Christmas. She said she was no longer on speaking terms with God. Her eyesight has completely failed in the last 10 years and that has hit her hard. #HealthyFaithChat
@SarahGeringer A8. While only God can ‘save’ we can act as His agent to bring people to Him. What greater reward for our efforts than to help bring a brother or sister to Christ, and eternal life! Even one! #HealthyFaithChat
@SarahGeringer A5. It challenges me because God is not vending machine. On it’s own this verse perhaps implies that if prayer does not heal then maybe it’s the righteousness of the person praying that is the issue. 1 John 5:14-15 says God answers according to his will. #HealthyFaithChat
@SarahGeringer A4. Spiritual health and strength is important even if we are physically week. Moreso, even. One may not be healed through prayer - but prayer fights spiritual death. A strong mind and spirit should be sought always. #HealthyFaithChat
@SarahGeringer A2. It is so easy to ‘lean on our own understanding’ and forget that He has a plan even if we don’t comprehend it. In time, at least for me, things start to make sense. Sometimes through acceptance and grace, others through circumstances changing for the best. #HealthyFaithChat
@CSLCHSnMore I am almost Yogic, that is how serene I am sometimes. t.co/EbAYwtSYP…
@SarahGeringer A1. I am 100% convinced that prayer has bought me serenity and calm, and that this has rubbed off on others around me, despite their disbelief. #HealthyFaithChat
@AndrewS76825037 Morning Andrew!
@AuthorJ_Fowler Hi James!
