While I understand the importance of understanding how the ancient Middle Easterner might have understood The Bible, I also believe that it was inspired and for all times and that not all of its truths would have been known to original audience, or the writer themselves.

@Curi_Christian That’s my straight view and I’m comfortable with it for the moment.

@Curi_Christian Yes, I like how Miller and Soden start with that. A salutary lesson in throwing the baby out with the bath water. At least now, truth is not the sole tyranny of the old Roman Catholic Church. We can reach our own conclusions without risk of torture. Which is nice!

@Curi_Christian I’m looking forward to getting into Miller and Soden to better understand what scripture says, as I think it’s the more reliable arbiter on these things.

@Curi_Christian And on the other hand spiral arms of galaxies should have spun off long ago if they were indeed billions of years old. There is much we don’t know about the ‘observable’ universe, and so to have faith in it rather than in scripture, is misplaced.

@Curi_Christian That’s right. God will not decieve. But we see and interpret things from a human-centric perspective. For example we say the speed of light is constant yet can only measure a round trip. Science cannot prove it is the same both on its way out and on its way back.

@Curi_Christian The straight reading, especially in the Hebrew is that they were created before the first day, and that God’s subsequent work made order from that disordered state. Another view is that is all existed before Day 1 and he just gave function to elements of his creation on each day.

@Curi_Christian And God would never and does never, deceive.

@Curi_Christian The biggest challenge I have to a long-time view of creation (as opposed to 7 24 hour days) is death recorded in the fossil record. Death is not ‘very good’.

On the other hand I do have to wrestle with the notion that God may have made some things look older than they are…

@Curi_Christian When I was saved and as I read and studied, I came to conclusion that Gods word was true and that I couldn’t pick and choose which bits I was happy with or not.

I now realise there is potentially more than one literal reading of Genesis 1.

@Curi_Christian I thought that might have been what you were getting at, and I think you are probably right regarding AIG’s perspective.

Personally, I was raised a materialist, evolutionist, and never questioned it.

@alexgarnerccbc Remember also that your neighbour should know who sent you. It is for His glory that we do these things, not our own.

@alexgarnerccbc I agree. It’s just another way of virtue signalling.

But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

@StoneKamino @ReturnofR @newworldrushman The Police. Synchronicity. It was the only album I owned for about two years! Played that tape to death. All I had was a little cassette deck like this to play it on… t.co/kj92mGHs9…

@RedeemedRags A stable loving childhood is a blessing that those of us who had one don’t always appreciate. I’ve seen the waves when marriages fail or parents break up still evident in the child well into adulthood half-centuries later. And society is in complete denial. So many consequences.

@CSLCHSnMore Congratulations David! You have been blessed. One year longer than I have been a person! My parents celebrated their 53rd anniversary this year. Are you planning anything nice to mark the occasion? It definitely deserves getting everyone you care about together to celebrate!

@shane_pruitt78 We shouldn’t feel the need to defend our faith from trolls who only care about bringing other people down.

Life has challenges enough without entertaining bullies in their sociopathy.

@Curi_Christian Watched your latest video on Days and Definite Articles… and have found Miller and Soden’s book on Scribd, which I have a subscription on. I’m looking forward to reading it through. Like I say, Genesis is foundational. It deserves a deep dive. Thanks for the tip!
