@Carpet16100850 I suspect there’s also a tendency to wave away the entire Old Testament when you’re trying to find stuff that conforms to your preconceived notions of sin and morality.
@Carpet16100850 It only arises because God Himself and the divinely breathed truth of The Bible has been forgotten or set aside in some quarters. It’s what happens when it is treated as a self-help wisdom book or motivation tool.

Of course the lesson is all about Hezekiah’s pride, and his self-belief before his trust and witness in God. He was generous and polite in showing his guests around the house… though pride and boastfulness were the true motives.
@EhzNow I may need to revisit the way I understand salvation in the Old Testament - or in Judaism at least. Is it fair to say that before Christ the Jewish view on salvation was different to the way Christians see OT salvation in the light of Jesus?

Genesis 15:6 Abram is counted righteous by faith, not deeds. Righteousness in the Old Testament was demonstrated by adherence to the law. But Abram is counted righteous by faith, before he’d proven by work.

@men_like_trees I will be happy if I have got to the point with my family where I can get baptised and go to church. If I can do that I have more of an opportunity to bring my wife along with me on this journey. She would benefit from the fellowship even if she’s not yet ready to receive Jesus.
