Deuteronomy 30:19 Today I have given you the choice between life and death! Between blessings and curses! Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make.

1 Corinthians 6:12 Scripture does not speak on all things, and the world will whisper in our itching ears… but not everything is good for us. We must guard ourselves against being controlled by our impulses.

@EllieR I had exactly that same feeling when I put two and two together 😄

@EhzNow Yes. And the first time we see Jesus getting ANGRY. That shows how important this particular issue was in the whole of the NT Gospel accounts.

@AndrewS76825037 Sorry, should have said money changers. Doh. That’s what happens when you post from memory.

You can see why money changers would be in the Court of the Gentiles if they were coming from nations far and wide.

@EhzNow It was Isaiah 56 that switched on the lightbulb for me. You are right that it is there in Mark too. Few people seem to catch the implication of ‘all nations’ and where the moneylenders had set up shop. Or maybe I’ve just not had my eyes open wide enough!

I think that is what got Jesus so angry.

Most of the comments I see about the moneylenders in the temple focus on the fact they were doing unjust business there but as is often the case that is only part of the picture. The more significant thing is that it meant the Gentiles were being pushed out of God’s house.

I think it is a telling and rarely noted fact that Jesus drove the moneylenders from the Court of the Gentiles in the Temple. Those moneylenders were pushing out the Gentiles from the space meant for their worship to God.

@men_like_trees That’s right. While difficult to squeeze into a tweet, their tricks were a pale and ineffective imitation of the true signs and wonders performed by Moses.

Exodus 7:21–22 How were the Magicians able to perform signs and wonders? Well they could only manage three. On the first, their serpents were eaten by that of Moses. On the second and third they made things worse. More blood, more frogs! And no undoing Moses curses.

@virginia_garret * earnt, doh.

@virginia_garret Their success will depend upon the respect they have from their team as they will reliant upon uncompelled consent which is early rather than demanded. And passive aggression is not a viable fall back if they are to be effective.

@virginia_garret I think they can, especially by example, but is important that they are able to demonstrate a determination or steel in pursuit of their objectives. Being quiet and introverted makes it harder, and they need to find ways that they can communicate effectively despite it.

Exodus 4:15–16 Have you ever wondered why God had Aaron speak for Moses? It is a lesson that even the great prophet Moses struggled with self-doubt and human failing.

Matthew 10:14–15. Mankind rejects the Gospel at its peril. Sodom & Gomorrah were a lesson and a warning. They did not have the saving grace of Jesus to call upon; not then. We do. Modernity pours scorn on God’s word but judgment will come.

@men_like_trees God’s partiality is only to those who while they might not meet his demand for righteousness, are prepared to approach him with a humble and contrite spirit. t.co/S0LbDktSt…

@Carpet16100850 100%.

@Carpet16100850 They have really helped me out, both in terms of giving me confidence in my own exegesis, and giving me context and insights that I would not have otherwise appreciated.

@Carpet16100850 Prior to finding the printed edition, I was listening to David’s Bible Study Sermons, which are well worth hearing, and upon which the books are based. The Isaiah ones were recorded in 1967 but the lessons are timeless.

@Carpet16100850 This is very good. I have the Kindle edition. A Commentary on Isaiah amzn.eu/gaOSPMq

I also find the ESV Study Bible Notes within the @OliveTreeBible iPad app very useful.

@PilgrimIntoWord God bless those in danger & those who worry for them. I pray for the day when you hear they are safe.
