I am convicted about actors portraying Jesus or God, the latter because it’s difficult to portray a non-human deity without it immediately falling into parody, the former because of how actors come to personify the person they play. The portrayal comes to replace the real Jesus.
I also try to avoid paintings of Jesus that are too ‘real’, for the same reason.
With this in mind, I’d be interested in your view on whether honest, respectful and theologically sound artistic depictions of God or Jesus can be stumbling blocks.
In my opinion there is much beautiful art depicting Christian subjects. In the UK many traditional churches are magnificent and awe-inspiring spectacles. I am aware of Ex. 20:4 and the Catholic embarrassment about Graven images. But I’ve also seen pushback via Sola Scriptura.
This channel seeks to highlight some of the beauty in Christian art, and I use it is a meditation on key passages as part of my daily immersion in the Word. I am sympathetic to anxieties about personifying the Father or Son in a disrepectful way, or one which replaces Scripture.
@joeycochran God bless you, your wife and family. You are a brave man for speaking out so publicly. God give you strength and dignity in the face of this persecution.

@CSLCHSnMore At the risk of sounding like some kind of fanboy Mike Winger answers this question with far more nuance than I can in a single tweet. This might be helpful for people struggling to forgive ‘absolutely’. #healthyfaithchat @joebennett1988
@HoneycombHermit @CSLCHSnMore Both great points. THIS is why the casual flip-off that The Bible just isn’t relevant is such rubbish. Even parts that seem so simple, so obvious, are deliciously rich and so applicable.
As a counterpoint, ‘women and children first’ would be anathema to many men these days.
@KevinObie1 @CSLCHSnMore Sounds like the Wizard of Oz!
@CSLCHSnMore My parents used to talk about doing something ‘with good grace’. It meant not being resentful at doing something. That is what ‘heartily’ means to me. And if you remind yourself you are doing the task for the Lord, it’s impossible to be resentful. Find meaning in all things.
@CSLCHSnMore I know what it means, but I don’t think my wife does! #healthyfaithchat
@CSLCHSnMore It is easier than ever to immerse yourself in the Word these days. Bible Study has never been easier! Discernment is needed more than ever, but opportunity is everywhere. And the contrast with time spent in Worldly things never starker. #healthyfaithchat
@CSLCHSnMore I like to think about how the Quakers would finish the inside / back of their furniture as well as they did the outside - because God would know and they wanted to honour Him in everything. In my life that is how I see this calling. To be aware that He knows my words and deeds.
@CSLCHSnMore Ok, ok, I borrowed it from the Passion Translation!
@joebennett1988 @CSLCHSnMore Abusive relationships: see my post about egregious offences and forgiveness #healthyfaithchat
@CSLCHSnMore There are some particularly egregious offences where some degree of repentance on the part of the other person might be necessary for full forgiveness. The Lord does not save the unrepentant sinner. #healthyfaithchat
@CSLCHSnMore Has no-one mentioned it before?! I’m really sorry to have been the one to break it to you!
@CSLCHSnMore Dealing with doofuses, as we would like to be dealt with ourselves! #healthyfaithchat
@JesseDornfeld Great name!
@CSLCHSnMore When we accept Jesus, we are given a new spiritual body, which is sanctified (made holy) over time. We get to choose whether this ‘wins’ over our fleshly body, which remains, until we get to join our Father in the end times. #healthyfaithchat
