@CreatedforaPur1 @AndrewS76825037 @MikeWingerii I might check out the NLT. My first complete read of The Bible was the NIV which has some lovely moments but a little ‘liberal’ on occasion… I can trust the ESV and stop worrying!
@CreatedforaPur1 @AndrewS76825037 @MikeWingerii The YouVersion app is great for social image creation and I like its parallel translation view too. The tools we have in this modern age are not to be sniffed at!
@CreatedforaPur1 @AndrewS76825037 @MikeWingerii I have the Bible Tree app which is great for reading and study. When I’m tired or finding it difficult to concentrate I read along with narration from the Crossway ESV app - which has a great Northern Irish narrator. The ESV is my favourite translation.
@CreatedforaPur1 @AndrewS76825037 @MikeWingerii For sure. It’s important to be able to follow the flow even when focussing in on the detail. I read it last year but that was a sprint. This year I’m spending more time to really understand, with a couple of commentaries beside.

@AndrewS76825037 @CreatedforaPur1 Ha ha ha! In my rereading of the New Testament this year I have Acts to complete, Romans, Hebrews and Revelation to go. I’m saving Hebrews to read along with BibleThinker as it’s @MikeWingerii’s next study. I might have known the good stuff would be lurking there!
@AndrewS76825037 @CreatedforaPur1 The foreshadowing and prophesy of Christ in the Old Testament was probably the biggest single factor in convincing me of the truth of scripture. I need to reread Galatians as that is such a wonderfully straightforward statement on how the old and new work together. Thank you.
@vakinduphilliam Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him!

@men_like_trees I would like to join you in this if you don’t mind 😀 I’ve not come across Dr. Lloyd-Jones previously but his legacy seems interesting -en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martyn_Ll… - and the narrator has a pleasant voice, which should be enjoyable across the 60 episodes of this series. #MLJbeatitudes
This is the version of The Lord’s Prayer I learnt by heart as a child. Still the most beautiful. I was bought up soft Church of England. High days and holidays, I was convinced I was an Atheist by my teens and that remained for 30 years. I am grateful for that grounding though.

@CreatedforaPur1 Given ‘the unchangeable character of his purpose’, I must admit that I’m not yet fully clear on the symbiosis between the Old and New covenants. My current perspective is that it was to show humanity that if we rely on works we will always fail. I’d be interested in your view.
@CSLCHSnMore It’s so easy to be misunderstood online when you aren’t with like-minded people (and even then, sometimes).
@CarolBevil1 @CSLCHSnMore @SarahGeringer While I think these conversations have value in a 1:1 personal context I’ve come to realise that in social media they are often futile and just cause anxiety, anger and frustration. Christ died and was raised for all mankind. This was revolutionary in 32AD and it is revolutionary now. twitter.com/SarahGeringer/…
