@StoneKamino He sounds like a character. I do know what you mean about some dogs being able to read what you’re thinking. I don’t have a dog now but grew up with 3 including 2 sheep dogs (collies) who were both sharp like that. The other was daft as a broom 😄

jk. Of course the lesson is all about Hezekiah’s pride, and his self-belief before his trust and witness in God. He was generous and polite in showing his guests around the house… though pride and boastfulness were the true motives. Don’t get all deeply theological on me 😀

While it is polite to show generosity to your house guests, it’s worth checking that they are not going to come back and swipe it all, plus many of your sons, before you do so.

I find online ‘in person’ environments stressful, and I like to be able to gather my thoughts and respond in a perhaps more considered way, least for me. Genesis 15:6 Abram is counted righteous by faith, not deeds.
One of the most important passages in the Old Testament. Righteousness in the OT was demonstrated by adherence to the law. But Abram is counted righteous by faith, before he’d proven by work.
@men_like_trees I never realised how much I was going to have to wrestle with the ideas I thought I knew, in the Beatitudes. They really do take some meditation on. And as MLJ says, those who cannot accept them need to consider the state of their Christian faith.

@men_like_trees MLJ speaks dismissively of the ascetics or pillar saints who took this denial of self to its extreme. Our heart must be genuine. As you say God knows our heart, and Jesus taught that the sins of the heart are just as bad as those of action (Matthew 5:27-28).
@Curi_Christian It means you should be careful! The Church fathers were pretty smart and millions have pored over scripture for thousands of years. It’s likely your interpretation has been considered before. Make sure you look at old as well as new commentaries!
@rankheresy Notice how dissatisfied the crowds in the New Testament were despite having witnessed miracles that you’d have though would blow anyone’s mind. Some people will always want more. It’s not miracles that make believers it’s the work of the Spirit on the heart.

In our secular world fandom has become the new worship. Anything that causes obsession, distraction from essential needs - family, friends, truly healthy activities in moderation, or anything taken to excess can be an idol. And people really dont realise.
