@JesseDornfeld The Septuagint use of Hades for Sheol is where I get lost theologically. How much of the mythology surrounding Hades was intended to be read across by that decision in translation equivalency. I believe the NT agrees that Sheol is the resting place before the second coming.
@JesseDornfeld I’m also not clear how Sheol fits into Christian theology.
@JesseDornfeld The Great Divorce gave me a new lens to see this through. But I have not studied the scripture throroughly enough to have formed a strong view following that. youtu.be/G1fVAjyXCqw
@JesseDornfeld I have always held to the idea that separation from God in the afterlife is eternal for those not saved. I’m not sure about torment though. Those not saved get what they wanted. It’s an area I need to understand more about so I am looking forward to your article!
Goodnight all… Alison Shearer - Cycles youtu.be/mwk3Tc_NxoU via @YouTube
@EllieR I’ve heard him mentioned by Mike Winger and Inspiring Philosophy on occasion. He really seems to know his stuff, unless he’s very good at not looking like he’s reading from his notes!
This has gone onto my reading list… It is interesting what Heiser has to say about Genesis 6, and the place of demons in the New Testament. Makes sense of otherwise obscure interactions, IMO.

@JesseDornfeld Thank you Jesse. The painting is by Edvard Munch, it’s called The Sick Child. Munch is obviously best known for ‘The Scream’.

@CSLCHSnMore Sackcloth and ashes!
120 year lifespan is the common interpretation here, but Shem lived to 500 years (Gen 11:11) and the subsequent verses to that mention lifespans of 400+ years so consistently that for me, it strongly supports the alternative interpretation. Man here is mankind, a warning to all.
@AndrewS76825037 @men_like_trees And I had never even considered the idea that we have talents and abilities, and calling as leaders within our own homes. I hope you find the support you need Kevin. It’s something you clearly need to work through 1-1 in real life. Your conviction is amazing.
@AndrewS76825037 @men_like_trees You two are great. I am blessed to learn from two men so committed to living in truth. If nothing else I am realising that while He makes our paths straight, we’re not all on the exact same one. My own cloth is cut according to my circumstance. I need example not condemnation too

@SarahGeringer Hey Sarah, no problem. Postal workers in the UK have been on strike recently so deliveries are a real mess anyway. Things will be far safer and reliable in the new year I hope. Do you have snow yet?
Better translated as ‘Descent of Noah from Ararat’.
I would love to see this painting in real life. The image on screen doesn’t do its 1.3m x 2.1m size justice. twitter.com/aivazovski_art…
@SarahGeringer Thank you Sarah, likewise to you and yours!

@Carpet16100850 I was only reading 3 chapters a day from Leviticus through Deuteronomy; you do need to take those slow, or the significance of the ceremonial laws, Tabernacle and sacrifices get lost - and you know that understanding them in the light of Christ’s coming is where the beauty lies!
@Carpet16100850 I’ve had quite a bit of time recently, so been reading commentary as well as David Pawson’s excellent Unlocking The Bible as I go. My objective this time is to go end to end at a good pace. Then I’m going to slow right down and maybe spend a month each in some of the key books.
@thescottbarber Ichabod means ‘inglorious’ or ‘without glory’ so not sure on that! Abbadon means ‘destroyer’ or ‘destruction’, so… you might wanna be a bit careful with that too!
I know someone named Dorcas - isn’t it a female name? She was a Pastor’s daughter! That one is a nice one 😀
@SarahGeringer Wow! What a treat! You’ve done well!
